MEET THE CAST
Joseph is a kinetic artist and mime performer who specialises in making comical chain-reaction machines.
Originally from New Zealand, Joseph now lives in Brooklyn, New York. When he’s not making machines he performs as a mime in the Funnybones mime trio. Fun fact! “Jiwi” is short for “Jewish Kiwi”. It’s the name that Joseph’s parents (musicians Linn Lorkin and Hershal Herscher) gave him when he was a baby.
Olivia is an Auckland-based actress and dancer best known for her work on Power Rangers and Shortland Street.
Olivia has also appeared in The Almighty Johnsons, Underbelly NZ: Land of the Long Green Cloud, When We Go To War and the NZ-Australia co-production 800 Words. She also produces her own brilliant web series, Dancing in Small Spaces.
Dominic is a theatre and screen actor known for his work with the Auckland-based Massive Theatre Company. Dominic had a recurring role on Shortland Street as Tane Samuels, and a leading role in the series The Market. Dominic is a Cook Islands New Zealander and will soon appear in the feature film Chief Gary.
Milo is a New Zealand actor best known for his role as Ziggy Grover in the children’s television series Power Rangers RPM. Recently, Milo played the lead in the Kiwi comedy-horror feature Deathgasm, and also appears in Ash vs Evil Dead (Season 1), When We Go To War, and the indie feature Blood Punch.
James trained as an actor at Unitec in Auckland and is a co-founder of Pretty Asian Theatre. He has toured in the acclaimed Indian Ink Theatre Company’s hit show Kiss The Fish. James is best known for his stand-up comedy, in which he is on a mission to show New Zealand what you get when the Filipino and Kiwi cultures collide.
Michelle, aka “Nanogirl”, is a scientist and adventurer who lectures in engineering at the University of Auckland. She has been made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her passionate work as a champion of science. Michelle believes everyone should have access to learning about science, and she is a co-founder of the charity OMGTech!
Luke Wijohn is a student at Western Springs College in Auckland. He loves science, Shakespeare and heaps of other stuff!
Jeff is a director and award-winning actor. He cut his directing teeth in the theatre – a medium he loves and still works in – and then moved on to directing New Zealand’s daily serial drama Shortland Street before branching out into other television series work. Jeff has worked extensively with young people across the years – facilitating play writing with at-risk youth and running AYA Drama School. Jiwi’s Machines is his first web series, and his daughter Olivia loves it!
Age is an award-winning musician, songwriter and producer known for his work with Fly My Pretties, The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra and The Woolshed Sessions. He has released three solo albums, and has recorded and performed with Flight of the Conchords.Pryor contributed songs to Taika Waititi’s feature film Eagle Vs Shark, and has composed and recorded music for several high profile commercial campaigns.
Gemma Gracewood is a producer of film, television and radio, and tours the world as a member of entertainment tour-de-force The Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra. Gemma’s screen credits include Frontseat, New Artland, Dead Letters, Flight of the Conchords: A Texan Odyssey, and the recent NZIFF documentary selection Joseph Gets Dressed. Gemma is also a freelance writer and she can often be heard on Radio NZ National’s Nine to Noon as a “sit-down comedian”. Gemma is a long-time member of Women in Film and Television (who once named her their “Woman to Watch”).
